The quality of our tools say a lot to other people about how we view ourselves.
Invest your money in the best tools you can give yourself.
Did you make a big New Year’s resolution this year? If you are like me and the rest of planet earth you will have forgotten them by February 1st. Most of the time it is because we have given no thought to how we will carry out our new resolutions. We don’t have a concrete Plan of Action for carrying them out. You also need to commit to your resolutions for a minimum of 2 months. It takes at least that long to Create a New Habit. Here are some suggestions on some important items you might want to include in your 2015 Action Plan:
- A first-rate Headshot that makes a statement about who you are. Get the best photographer and pay the piper. A great headshot will be worth the money you spend. Here is one who has shot many of our Acting Lions: HEADSHOTS.
- Build a quality website with pictures, reviews, resume, bio, videos of your best work and your reel if you have one. People need to be able to find out all about you.
- Join the major casting websites. Actors Access, NY Castings are two good ones. The self-submit auditions are getting more common, and in a year or two they will be the norm.
- Put your reel on Actors Access and update your page there regularly. I hear actors complaining about the cost. Casting Directors checking submissions often check Actors Access pages to find out more about actors they don’t know well. They don’t want to be bothered clicking 3-5 times to find your work on your website. Be sure to have your reel in the place they all already look.
- Be in a Class when you are not working. It is important to keep yourself stimulated and growing as an artist.
- Get a good Camera with a tripod and a Ring-Light for taping self submissions. They even make tripods for your smart phone.
- Hire yourself. With the technology available today, why wait to be discovered? Work with your own Personal Network and start creating your own projects. Our Acting Lions have created everything from full length plays and One-Person Shows, to Web Series and both short and full length films. Check out STAY AT HOME DAD by Brandon Williams.
