This 5 week Monologue Class is designed to help actors overcome one of the most difficult mountains they have to climb as they move their career forward. The dreaded monologue.

  • How many monologues should I have?
  • Do I need both Contemporary and classical monologues?
  • Do I need both comedy & drama?
  • How much range should my monologue show?
  • Should my monologue show who I am or a character?
  • Where should I look when auditioning with a monologue?

In this Monologue Class, Prudence Wright Holmes will answer all of these questions and more as she guides you on your journey of finding the right monologue for you and then helping you develop it until it is audition ready.   The class size will be limited so that every will actor get personal attention and perform every week.

monologue masteryAbout Prudence Wright Holmes: A graduate of the prestigious Carnegie Mellon Drama program, Ms.Holmes has been coaching actors on monologue work for over 25 years.  Her reputation has made her “the go to person” in New York for actors of all levels.  Her students have appeared in films, television, on and off-Broadway, regional theaters and commercials. She has taught at Carnegie Mellon Drama Department, NYU Drama Department, the Actors Studio at the New School, and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She has given workshops at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, the Neighborhood Playhouse, and the Strasberg Institute.  More recently she has taught seminars for  and SAG  and Actors Equity. She is the author of Monologue Mastery and Voices of Thinking Jewish Women.

Prudence knows from personal experience how to how to choose and perform monologues that get jobs. She has appeared in featured roles in the films Sister Act I and II with Whoopi Goldberg, Kingpin with Woody Harrelson and In Dreams with Annette Bening. On Broadway she appeared in Happy End with Meryl Streep, Lettice and Lovage with Maggie Smith and Inherit the Wind with George C. Scott. She has appeared in numerous off-Broadway shows including the original casts of Godspell and Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You. Most recently she wrote and performed her solo show Bexley, OH! at New York Theatre Workshop.
